This is my 3D platformer project for my Game Design and Development with Unity 2020 course from MSU and Coursera. Modifications I made include the following:

For Level 1:

  • Added tutorial text screens that explain the controlsstory, and items found within the game to the player
  • Changed the player's color to resemble Mario as the game's story is a reference to the Super Mario series
  • Created a new skybox material to better fit the space / nighttime setting of the game

For Level 2:

  • Created an original level with a cave theme using the assets provided. The level contains four different rooms the player will have to explore in order to find out which one has the key to the room with the goal. Each of the other 3 rooms has one of the 3 other pickups the player saw in the first tutorial level
  • Changed the music of the level to an original song that better fits the level's theme. Credits provided below

For Level 3:

  • Created an original level with a robot spaceship theme using the assets provided. The level consists of an entrance hallway with enemy turrets, a main hall that contains one of every enemy type in the game, a throne room where player has to face the main boss of the story, and a prison where the player rescues the princess
  • Created a boss enemy type by increasing the size of an existing enemy and increasing their health and movement speed
  • Created an NPC with dialogue text above her head using the animated player prefab to represent the princess character in the game's story
  • Altered the stats and sizes of multiple enemies and game objects in the inspector in order to better accommodate the level's design and difficulty balance
  • Changed the music of the level to an original song that better fits the level's theme. Credits provided below
